This is my first post for my “Motivational Monday” series where I’ll highlight something inspiring & motivating [quotes, articles, books, etc.] to help set the week off on a positive note! I hope you enjoy!
I’m not a huge fan of Sunday’s because there is always a bit of stress throughout the day knowing that the next day is Monday – and of course I want to make sure I finish everything on my weekend to-do list:
- Go grocery shopping
- Meal prep for the week
- Clean the apartment
- Pay my bills
- Relax/Sleep in (unfortunately my internal alarm clocks goes off at 8AM)
Because of this, I try to look for things to inspire and motivate me for the week ahead! I enjoy reading blogs, articles, magazines, etc. that provide tips and insight on how to stay productive and motivated. I’m a fan of Fast Company and I love when I receive the magazine in the mail. [Always on the hunt for any career tips & advice I can get!]
I particularly love this month’s edition because the magazine interviewed a select group of successful people to see how they stay productive; the areas they believe they can improve; their sleep schedule; etc. Insight from anyone who has achieved success? Sign me up! 😉
Oprah of course is simply amazing and I was excited to see her featured on the cover. I couldn’t wait to read her interview! She has accomplished so much throughout her life and has brought tremendous joy and happiness to so many people. I truly respect the impact she has made and continues to make with everything she does.
One of my biggest takeaways from the article – besides how envious I am at her success – is how much her team respects and admires her. J.J. McCorvey [author of the article] spoke with 2 executives from Oprah’s leadership team and the comments they made about her truly highlight the type of person and leader she is. Example: “We work for a person who has a mission on earth.” – Sheri Salata
Such an incredible comment from someone on her team! I found this interview insightful and motivating. I can only hope that I can be a fraction of the type of leader & philanthropist that Oprah is.
In the article, Oprah is quoted saying:
“I have learned that your full-on attention for any activity you choose to experience comes with a level of intensity and truth,” she says. “It’s about living a present life, moment to moment—not worrying about what’s going to happen at 3 o’clock and what’s going to happen at 7 o’clock.” In other words: focus. “That whole thing about multitasking? That’s a joke for me. When I try to do that, I don’t do anything well.”
Amen! It’s more common than ever to find people who are constantly checking their phones &/or just not completely focused on what they are doing. I have definitely been guilty of this. I try to constantly reminding myself to focus on what I’m doing so I give 100%.
My goal for this week is to be present and totally committed to everything I do.
